All Is Not Lost is the second online release by Alien Hand, and is a striking departure from the Celtic-flavoured breakcore sound the Irish producer was initially known for. The 7 original tracks here range from straight-up techno bangers such as "Hiding From The Fun" to skittering IDM breakbeat workouts like "Beautiful Bastard", with lurching time signatures and sour harmonies, constructed almost entirely from synthesized sounds, with barely a sample to be heard. The tone here is melancholic, the brooding, sorrowful melodies presented in stark contrast to the propulsive rhythms underpinning them, the jackin' beats eventually giving way entirely to the despairing, icy synths and pitch-black Sean Nós vocals of "Cold Comfort", before finally relenting with the warmer, more optimistic melodic cascade of the title track.

Following the beatless, soporific lull of the closing tracks, Encrypter kicks things up a notch with a stomping tekno remix of "Be Seeing You", the lithe electro beats here mutated into something far more animalistic, the buzzing bassline twisted beyond recognition, brutally pummeling the listener into submission.

Automatic Tasty closes out the proceedings with a relatively subdued coup de grace. A pillowy, tranquil minimal remix of "Cold Comfort" that strips away almost everything, leaving a skeletal, submerged house beat and bassline that provides a support structure for the funereal organ reminding us while all may not be lost, all is not necessarily well either. Sleep tight, kiddies!

Originally released in June 2013 on oddball UK label El Perro Rojo Records, who sadly had to shut down operations because of legal pressure from New Order. Thanks lads. R.I.P. EPR <3
